Hi to all my tennis friends!

Sure have missed you all on the courts the past few weeks, due to an injury involving the sciatica. So Melissa and I have been spending more time at our “other” home out in the desert area.

Even though I was unable to play, I understand the club had a very successful interclub with Boeing. Even though they were not many who showed up for Boeing, the DTC came through BIG time, and all had a great time! … tennis, food and all!

Want to remind you that the Downey Street Faire is fastly approaching – Saturday, May 1st. The DTC has been involved in this city event for over 5 years, and it has certainly been worth all the time and effort many of you who have made it so. Again this year, we could sure use everyone’s help, so please give me a call and let me know just how and when you’re able to contribute to this year’s Street Faire success – Thanks!

Hope everyone had a fun summer ... that included lots of tennis?! Our year-end Summer Hawaiian Tennis Party was again another very successful, strictly-social event. The food was great, the shuffleboards and pool tables were busy the entire night! It's obvious our DTC members are good at ANY sport! Thank you to Gail Garland and those who helped make this a successful party, and to everyone who came for a jolly good time!

It's that time of year again to pay up your membership, which has been holding quite steady the past few years. But we can always use more members, as well as help with planning and organizing events scheduled throughout our tennis year. Call Jean Jones for any membership questions. Membership fees: $25 for one; $40/couple. Our board meetings are routinely held the last Monday of the month at Independence Park. Everyone's invited to attend.

I'd like to take this opportunity to than some of our members for their ongoing help: to Carolyn Castillo for not only her super job as our club secretary and especially all of her fine efforts to make sure all the members are kept current of club activities through our monthly newsletter. To Shirley Adams and Peggy Smith, your regular reminder calls for our weekend socials are very helpful and much appreciated. And to Charlotte for all of her efforts in providing us with many useful tennis tips and court rules. It's a great _____________.

Our Downey Tennis Club was represented this year at the U.S. Open ... none other than Bruce Koning.

Remember to mark your calendars NOW for our big holiday event at the Rio Hondo Event Center, which has always been a beautiful, fun-filled, scrumptuous-eating time! Again, it's the 1st Friday of December -- this year the 4th of December. We're planning again this year to invite our neighborning tennis clubs, so if you're on the courts with members of other clubs, make sure you let them know about our big Christmas party!
