OUR MISSION:
To promote tennis playing among the community and surrounding areas. The club is non-profit and supported by its membership. The DOWNEY TENNIS CLUB (DTC) plans organized events for social and competitive play. All players ages 16 and above are welcome. Activities are scheduled at Independence Park in Downey, California.

MEMBERSHIP:
Our calendar year is July through June. Annual membership dues are $25.00 for single players and $40.00 for a family of two. The fees include monthly newsletter mailings, inclusion in the club directory, and participation in planned events, such as weekend tennis socials, team tennis, InterClub activities, tournaments, and more.

SOCIALS:
These events are comprised of various skill levels that compete with each other. The format can vary from month to month, dependent upon the number of players participating. Typically, partners are changed to allow playing against and with each other. Periodically, refreshments or lunch are provided to allow the members to socialize off the courts. Monthly Socials are scheduled the second Saturday of each month during the fall, winter and spring seasons. During the summer, play includes Friday night Socials as well. TEAM TENNIS:
As of our 2007-08 year, we will be changing the format of team tennis . As soon as this has been completed, the new format will be posted.

TOURNAMENTS:
Men's, Women's and Mixed Doubles tournaments are scheduled throughout most tennis years with DTC members and invited guests. The intent of these tournaments is to provide a competitive environment. Cost is $10.00 per player per event.

INTERCLUB:
These activities are both competitive and social play, that involve participation with other local tennis clubs. Participating clubs, to name a few, are: Cerritos, Cypress, La Mirada, North Orange County and Tennis Friends of Orange County. The events rotate among locations, and are intended to increase competitive play within the players' skill level. Currently, two primary activities are planned: Team Tennis and Socials. Costs vary depending upon the location and sponsor. These events are posted in this website (InterClub page) and in our monthly newsletters.

WEEKENDERS:
A Weekender allows players to visit local resorts for planned matches as well as network with other clubs and players. Matches are set up to allow all players an opportunity to play and compete with each other. Players can also set up their own matches after scheduled play. Strictly-social activities (dinner, dancing, receptions, etc.) are part of the Weekenders as well. Cost varies depending upon the season and resort selected. Some of the club's favorite sites are: Singing Hills (San Diego), Rio Bravo (Bakersfield), Shadow Mountain (Palm Dessert), Casa Via Maria (Port Heuneme), plus others.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY:
Each year a directory is published and distributed to all members, including addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. This serves as a handy reference guide for all club members.
